It will be considered scabbing and it will hurt your chances of joining a union. If you are behind the screen writing, or in front of the screen performing, do not take jobs from media companies. The shelter was a crude one- nothing more than a tarpaulin tied hastily between two naked tree trunks- but it kept the worst of the downpour from hitting you and Joel. Even curled up as you were, there was no escaping the spray from the pellets of rain colliding with the nearby ground.
The noise was deafening; it made you nervous. You weren’t confident that you would be able to hear approaching footsteps over the rain, let alone a gun being cocked…or a Clicker seeking you out. A glance to your left confirmed your suspicion; Joel had positioned himself so that his good ear was facing the forest at large, his deaf one facing you.
A raindrop ran down the back of your neck and you couldn’t suppress the shiver it evoked. Catching the movement from the corner of his eye, Joel turned to look at you with a frown.
Before you could say a word, he was shuffling closer to you on the damp forest floor. His arm was heavy around your shoulders as he silently drew you into his side, the smell of leather from his jacket joining the fresh, green smell of the rain in the forest. His skin was chilled by the rain when you nuzzled your nose into his neck, but after a few seconds you felt the beginnings of warmth stirring to life in your veins.
With the rain continuing to fall around you, you curled closer to him and let him warm you.
